Dreamwalker books came today!

I'm surprised the books came a day early! I was supposed to get them on tuesday, nonetheless I'm happy to have them in hand and I'm really happy at how they turned out! Comixpress did such a great job at printing! I really can't believe they're in print! Since I've only ordered a 100 copies in print, if you don't get one at Comic-con, I just want to note that I will make them available at Comixpress the week after Comic-con! See you in a few days!

Dreamwalker New Cover Art!

You've probably seen the old version of my cover in earlier posts, I recently got this cover re-designed by my good friend James Pascual who has the same last name as me! Lol. He did such an awesome job and that I am really happy with how this turned out! Thanks James! You can view his work here.

Dreamwalker Updates... Isis' dream.

Here is a sequence of pages that I worked on the other day! These few pages show  my main character Isis dreaming... I ended up waking up at 4am yesterday and started working the whole day til about 10am, then went to the coffee shop and inked the rest of the pages and finally came home at around 3pm and took a nap til 6! My work schedule is so random lately. But I'm usually up really early or I work through the night til about 4am and on those days I wake up between 9:30-11 in the morning. Then I repeat! So much work to do still before Comic-con. I'm printing only the first chapter of Dreamwalker through Comixpress and I'm pretty excited! I'm also getting an awesomely huge banner printed for my booth! Still.... more to do!

I promise to blog more often about Dreamwalker! Here is a drawing I worked on for the title page of the book. Oh yes our protagonist is female! Isis is a 17 year old girl who sees shadows, spirits from other worlds, and discovers she has psychic and magical powers. You'll see... not your typical super hero comic book. =)

Process junkee

Here's a set of drawings that I did over the weekend. This whole sequence is a part in the story where Chip (the shape-shifting spirit) brings Isis through these magical portals to an ancient civilization called Atlantis. I find it really hard to talk about and describe what the story is about. I'm continually changing my words around and I'm actually going to have someone else write the synopsis for me. I find it really interesting how my creative process works... stepping beside myself to observe myself! Ha. I don't think I ever make any sense! I think I go through different parts of the story and write and draw different parts by whatever I feel inspired to work on at that moment, its never planned out ahead of time. I do however keep a sketchbook of just thumbnails and plan the pages that way. It's like a whole day of drawing, break, the next day ink, then scan, then do more thumbnails, then repeat! That has been my past 3 weeks... I was starting to really get burnt out by this story in the last 6 months, I've never completely invested in a project such as this and I'm now just having a ton of fun writing the dialogue and inventing things as I go along! Its quite rewarding surprisingly. I usually get bored after I've worked on a project for too long. But no Dreamwalker is special, since I've written it completely and have put my perspective and my experiences about what I think about the universe and humanity and crafted it into a graphic novel.
As an artist, I'm really more of a visual learner, when I look at a picture I just "get it". Its harder for me to articulate all my feelings into words, drawing them is probably an easier way of showing others.

Our main character Isis suddenly realizes that she can be anything she wants to be on the astral plane, her shape-shifting friend Chip who's from another universe takes her to explore the spirit world where things are limitless. =) More to come soon!
